Lancet Tips

This is a guest post by Debbie Egan, sharing some great tips about lancets and how we as a community can help each other through sharing information.  If you would like to share feel free to email or join us on Facebook for a discussion.

I have been a diabetic for 44 years and have been to many doctors through this time period. Due to insurance rules and busy schedules—this leaves us, the patient, with a 15 minute physician visit.  None of these doctors share the “tips and tricks” that make having a chronic disease easier to handle. For instance, there are MANY types of lancing devices. The Doctor seems to hand out one product and the patient uses that “one” for years—not knowing there are many other products available. As a recent example, when I was volunteering at the JDRF office, I was told about a new lancet—Delica. It is a MUCH finer needle than all the other Lancets. So, it saves my poor fingers from as much deep and wide puncturing as they would get with all other lancets. I quickly called my Doctors office and they had never heard of this product. I called One Touch to get the exact code for the doctor to order this product. Then, I found out that there is no One Touch pharmaceutical representative—thus the Doctor had never heard of this fabulous new lancet. Moral of this story—we as diabetics NEED to get together to learn from one another and educate the physicians. So, come join in by volunteering so we can learn together.
